Established in 2008, The MDGLCC Foundation, Inc. exists to support the education, travel, and tourism outreach efforts of the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (MDGLCC). It was determined by the MDGLCC board that the creation of a 501 c3 affiliate would allow the chamber to shift focus of its community building and education programs more effectively by housing such projects under its Foundation. For more than 10 years, The MDGLCC Foundation, Inc. has provided educational programs, scholarships, seminars, and fundraising opportunities to the local LGBT community and its allies. It also conducts diversity outreach and educational training for entrepreneurs.
In 2010, the MDGLCC Foundation Inc. opened the LGBT Visitor Center in Miami Beach, FL (located in Historic City Hall). In a short period of time, this facility has come to be regarded as the premier model of its kind and greets thousands of LGBT & Allied visitors each year. In addition, most of the area LGBT charitable organizations hold meetings, fundraisers, and educational outreach in the space provided by the Visitor Center. In December of each year, The MDGLCC Foundation hosts an annual holiday toy drive which attracts over 500 locals to the Visitor Center. The event benefits the Miami Beach Police Department’s Holiday Relief Fund for Miami Beach economically challenged families.
With regards to the MDGLCC, it is the largest not-for-profit corporation in the county for gay and lesbian businesses. With membership on the rise, the Chamber’s mission is to promote a unified and thriving, gay and gay-friendly, business and professional community throughout Miami-Dade County. Its goals are to promote networking within the existing gay and gay-friendly business and professional community, to promote business opportunities for Chamber members, to promote Miami as a year-round, gay and gay-friendly tourist destination, to provide resources for our members, and to provide outreach from our community to other organizations.
